From August 8th to August 11th, 2023, Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam, Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam, Mr. Le Minh Tri joined the delegation accompanying the Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam to paid a work visit to Iran.
Within the framework of the visit to Iran, the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam, Mr. Le Minh Tri participated in official activities according to the working schedule of the Chairman of the National Assembly of Viet Nam; he also represent the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to sign the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between Viet Nam and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
On August 9th, 2023, at the headquarters of the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) affiliated to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, in the presence of the Chairman of National Assembly of Viet Nam, Mr. Vuong Dinh Hue, the Prosecutor General of the People's Procuracy of Viet Nam, Mr. Le Minh Tri and the Minister of Justice of Iran, Mr. Amin Hossein Rahimi signed the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Islamic Republic of Iran on behalf of the two countries.
The Treaty consists of a Preamble and 21 Articles, detailing the competence, order and procedures for carrying out mutual legal assistance activities in criminal matters between the competent authorities of the two countries. After being ratified, the Treaty will be an important and direct legal tool for the two countries' judicial authorities to provide mutual assistance in order to effectively fight against various types of crimes, especially transnational organized crime. The Treaty will serve as a legal basis to better protect the legitimate rights and interests of the citizens of each country.
Previously, Mr. Le Minh Tri, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam and Mr. Amin Hossein Rahimi, Minister of Justice of Iran had a bilateral meeting at the headquarters of the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) affiliated to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran. At the meeting, the two sides affirmed the significance and importance of the signing of the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between Viet Nam and Iran. Together with the Treaty on Extradition and the Treaty on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons, the signing of the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters this time will be a full legal framework for the competent authorities of the two countries to support each other in the fight against transnational crimes and carry out mutual legal assistance activities in criminal matters; thereby, improving the efficiency of solving criminal cases involving foreign elements in the two countries. At the meeting, the two sides also exchanged information related to the criminal justice system of the two countries, as well as the system of central authority in the field of mutual legal assistance in criminal and civil matters, extradition and transfer of sentenced person in accordance with the current laws.
The signing of the Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters between Viet Nam and Iran during this high-level visit is an important event in the occasion of the year 2023 as the 50th anniversary of the establishment of foreign relations between Viet Nam and Iran (August 4th, 1973 - August 4th, 2023); thereby, contributing to consolidating and building an increasingly sustainable and profound relationship in the fields of cooperation between the two countries.
