At the invitation of the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam, the delegation of the Attorney General's Office of Cuba, led by Ms. Yamila Pena Ojeda, Attorney General of Cuba, had a working visit in Viet Nam from November 16th to 19th, 2023. On the morning of November 18th, 2023, at the headquarters of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam, Mr. Le Minh Tri, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam had a meeting with the Cuban delegation.
Delegates of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam attending the meeting were Ms. Nguyen Hai Tram, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam; Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam; Mr. Do Manh Bong, Director of Department of Public Prosecution over the Investigation of Corruption and Position - related Crime (V5); Ms. Vu Thi Hai Yen, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (V13); Mr. Do Dinh Chu, Director of the Department of Administration and General Affair (VP)
The delegation of the Attorney General's Office of Cuba attending the meeting included Ms. Alina Montesino Li, Deputy Attorney General of the Attorney General's Office of Cuba; Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba in Viet Nam; Mr. Edward Roberts Campbell, Director of the Department of Corruption and Law Violations Prevention; Ms. Patricia Maria Rizo Cabrera, Director of the Department of Judicial Cooperation and International Relations; Mr. Luis Alberto Perez Lopez, Chief of Office of the Attorney General's Office of Cuba; Mr. Joy Puente Saldise, Deputy Ambassador of Cuba to Viet Nam.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Le Minh Tri, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam expressed his pleasure to welcome Ms. Yamila Pena Ojeda, Attorney General of Cuba, and the Cuban Delegation to visit and work with the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam. At the same time, he affirmed that the Viet Nam - Cuba relationship is a traditional relationship of friendship, faithful attachment, sharing sweetness and happiness between the two countries. We are both brothers and comrades share the same revolutionary ideals originating from President Ho Chi Minh and President José Marti. That special traditional relationship has always been supported and nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries over the past 63 years. The Vietnamese people always remember the spirit of solidarity as well as the great help and support of the Cuban people for the cause of national liberation and the development of the Vietnamese revolution.
The year 2023 is an important milestone in the development of the special traditional friendship relationship between Viet Nam and Cuba. The Parties, States and people of the two countries have had many activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam (1963 - 2023) and the 50th anniversary of President Fidel Castro's first visit to Viet Nam and the newly liberated region of Quang Tri province (1973 - 2023). The fact that President Fidel Castro was the first and only foreign head of state to visit the newly liberated region and raise the flag of the South-Vietnam Liberation Front at that time was a source of great spiritual encouragement for Vietnam's revolutionary forces and has contributed to spreading the movement to join hands in solidarity with Vietnam globally.
Reviewing a number of cooperative activities between the two agencies, the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam and the Attorney General's Office of Cuba signed a Cooperation Agreement on March 29, 2013 in Cuba's capital La Habana. Since then, the two agencies have signed and effectively implemented four 02 year cooperation programs, which are: Cooperation program for the period 2015 - 2016; 2017 - 2018; 2019 - 2020 and 2022 - 2023. Implementing the signed cooperation programs, the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam welcomed 06 Cuban delegations of the Attorney General's Office of Cuba to visit and work in Viet Nam and also sent 08 Vietnamese delegations to visit, work and attend international conferences in Cuba.
Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam, Mr. Le Minh Tri believes that the effective implementation of the Cooperation Program for the period 2024 - 2025 will contribute to promote the cooperative relationship between the two agencies in particular and the solidarity, friendship, tradition, Comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, the two States and the people of Viet Nam and Cuba in general.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Yamila Pena Ojeda, Attorney General of Cuba, thanked the thoughtful and respectful welcome of the Leaders of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam for the Cuban delegation. Ms. Yamila Pena Ojeda believes that through this visit, the two agencies will continue to strengthen cooperation in the field of human resource training and development; exchange experience in law making; effectively implement the contents of the Cooperation Agreement and Cooperation Program for the period 2024 - 2025, contributing to the development of traditional friendship between the two countries in the current situation.
After the meeting, the Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam and the Attorney General's Office of Cuba signed a 2-year cooperation program for the period 2024 - 2025. The content of cooperation expected to be implemented in the next 2 years includes 04 activities: a traditional and regular activity of attending 16th International Conference on Criminal Science and the 4th Conference on Law, Rule of Law and Society will be held in early 2025 and 03 thematic seminars related to the topics of protecting public interests, fight again drug crime and human trafficking. These are all hot topics that all countries in the world are interested in and wish to promote international cooperation to protect the country's peaceful development.
